Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to you to announce the appointment of a Head of School, Mr Andy Hill, from the beginning of November. He will contribute to our continued commitment to secure outstanding academic attainment and the well being of all our students. Mr Hill has experience of leading and managing bilingual schools in Belgium, France, Italy, Kuwait and the USA, as well as presenting to audiences on topics including the bilingual brain, the teenage brain, and language acquisition theory. He is a former Accreditation Officer for the Council of International Schools (CIS) and will be contributing to furthering ERV’s recognition with CIS as a globally recognised educational provider. Much of his expertise has been adding iGCSE and IBDP in developing schools. He speaks French, English and Italian. We are delighted to welcome him to ERV.

The ERV Calendar continues to offer a range of activities for our students that include Friendship Week for primary students starting on Monday 12th November, and linked to this, for all students, International Children’s Day on Tuesday 20th November. ERV READS continues and the Inter House Spelling Bee competition will take place on Monday 26th November. All of these events will take place during the school day.

On Monday  19th of November ERV students will participate in the AGEOS Forum. Our iGCSE and IBDP Science students have been invited to attend the first day of the GMES & Africa forum organised by AGEOS (Agence Gabonaise d’Etudes et d’Observations Spatiales) on the theme ‘Unlocking the potential for Earth observation as a key driver of Africa’s sustainable development’, taking place at the Stade d’Angondjé. ERV Year 10 and Year 12 students will participate in activities which include exhibitions, discussions, and the Copernicus program (an earth observation program coordinated and managed by the European Commission in partnership with the European Space Agency). As part of the opening ceremonies, Year 2 and Year 6 children will perform a song and recite poetry on the theme of the environment.

The first term of this academic year closes with the End of Term Examinations for secondary school students including the first Mock Examinations for our iGCSE and IBDP students. There will also be an iGCSE Guidance Event for ERV Year 11 students on Wednesday 28th November and for Year 12 IBDP students on Thursday 22nd November.

Many parents will recall that we invited you to join us in September to review our vision and mission statements, and the principles we strive to achieve  (‘Excellence, Respect, Virtue’). Thank you to all parents who contributed. I will be feeding back on the outcomes of that evening on Thursday 15th November, at 5.00pm in the ERV Library. We anticipate that the meeting will last no more than an hour. Mr. Andy Hill, will attend this evening. Please join us.

Thank you also to those parents who were able to join us for the first Parents’ Evening of the academic year which took place on Tuesday 30th October.

Finally, a polite reminder in respect of how to share important information with us about your son or daughter or if you have any questions. Please direct your enquiry to the main school reception; reception@ecolerubanvert.com

Regards,

Karen Mort
