Even after all these years the first day of the new school year gives me a buzz! There are the new faces to greet, the new uniform to admire, new books to hand out and all the range of possibilities that lie ahead.
As we come to the end of the first week, we have had a relatively calm start to the new session. The new school uniform arrived in time for the start of term – just! – so apologies if you have had to wait in a queue at the school shop. I think you will all agree how smart the pupils look. For those who may not have been able to purchase all the items you wished, there is a further consignment. Please also remember that this year we will have accept the old and the new uniform to avoid unnecessary extra expense.
ECAs start next week after school and while we have tried to make as many options available to the greatest number we have been careful to ensure pupil safety especially in sporting activities so that pupils are not going to be prone to injury by playing against much older students.
We welcome parental support to help our students grow and develop and to this end we will be inaugurating a Friends of ERV group which will help promote the school’s activities in a variety of ways.
Packed-lunches seem to be popular as students bring their own choice of food. The fridges are available to store the lunches and for those who require them there are sandwiches available for sale. At the moment this is the best option while I explore other long-term possibilities.
Next Thursday we hold our Parents’ Information evening at 17h/5pm in the Auditorium – a time to meet staff and find out about the programme for the academic year. (Consultation sessions about academic work and progress take place at half-term break and again following reports.) See you there!
All good wishes for the week-end and for week 2!
