The 5th edition of the Maraton du Gabon was held on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2017. This year saw the largest number of participants out of all the previous editions, and, as is now customary, ERV had a large presence in this sporting event. The marathon’s aim is to raise awareness among women about the different types of cancer (e.g. uterus and breast cancer) to which they are exposed. The funds raised thanks to this program will allow women to get the treatments they need in order to fight cancer. This is why participants from even the most remote corners of Africa come to Gabon to take part in this massive community event.

ERV, along with its community wanted to show their support of this great initiative and participated in Saturday’s 1.5k, 3k and 5k races. On Sunday, the bravest among us dared run the 10k and 21k in order to challenge themselves and push their limits. It is important to recognize that the school’s record of the full marathon (42k) is held by Mr. McGarr (ToK and head of music department), who completed it in 3 hours 51 minutes and 52 seconds. This record was obtained during last year’s edition, earning Mr. McGarr a place in last year’s top 20 (18th place).

Congratulations Mr McGarr!
